Preparing for Ramadan

It was narrated from Sahl ibn Sa’d (may Allaah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “In Paradise there are eight gates, among which is a gate called al-Rayyaan, which none will enter but those who fast.” (Narrated by al-Bukhaari, 3017).

In just less then a week we all will be entering into the most beautiful and blessed month for us as Muslims- Ramadan. It is a month of forgiveness, blessings ,duas , patience and a battle towards being a good Muslim -InshAllah.

It is very important to plan individually what we will be doing and achieving during this month.

( besides making spring rolls,samosas,shami kababs and imli chutney 😝😝)

Just like we plan for a wedding or a party where we organize and arrange every detail so that the entire function goes smooth. Just like we plan for any other important guest who is arriving our place for a dinner. Just like a list that we make before going for grocery shopping to make sure we get everything. Sadly, we tend to give much more attention to these worldy things. But its never too late. What would be better than planning for the most beautiful guest – Ramadan this year

Planning a routine and making a list will make us stay focused towards our goal this Ramadan and it will also give us an opportunity to analyze what we achieved, where we lacked and how can we improve ourselves in our deen and worldy matters. Take it as a training season for our spiritual renewal and internal transformation.

I wouldn’t recommend making a long due plan for the entire month to start with. A basic one would be much helpful – for example plan for the first ashara only and see how you’re implementing on it. Few examples could be like:

  1. Reading atleast some Quran everyday, even if its few ayats.
  2. Listening to some short Quranic lectures( Noman Ali Khan )
  3. Praying Sunnah Salah with Fard. If you’re already doing that, try some Nafl prayers for bonus points!
  4. Making zikr and duas during fasting
  5. Giving charity everyday- even if its one dirham.
  6. Think of your past sins and do astagfarh with a sincere heart.
  7. Forgive others.
  8. Focus and march towards reading Taraweh prayers.

I attended a very informative Ramdan preparatory lecture yesterday and would like to share some of the things I gathered from there that will help me to plan my routine this Ramadan.Hope it would be helpful for you too :
